Attend a MakerSpace or SoundSpace workshop

Discover your creativity at the MakerSpace and SoundSpace studios at Glendale Central Library. Visitors to the studios can record, sew, paint, 3D print, craft, and much more!

NOTE: CHECK THE AGE RANGE & LOCATION OF THE WORKSHOP PRIOR TO SIGNING UP! WE NOW HAVE BOTH VIRTUAL AND IN-PERSON (AT CENTRAL & OTHER BRANCH LOCATIONS) WORKSHOPS.

MAKERSPACE EQUIPMENT 

  • Sewing & Quilting Machines: Several Brother Innov-is NQ700PRW Project Runway Limited Edition with 180 built-in stitches including 40 combinable stitches; 2 serger machines; 1 Brother PE 800 Embroidery machine 

  • 3D Printers: Ultimaker 2+, Ultimaker 2 Extended+, and Ultimaker 3 Extended. 

  • Computers: Apple 27-inch iMacs with creative software (Ultimaker Cura, Cricut Design Space, Adobe CC, Inkscape, etc.) 

  • Drafting tablet: Wacom Cintiq Pro DTH 1320 

  • Cricut Cutting Machines: Cricut Maker and Cricut Explore Air 2 with adjustable cutting, writing speeds, over 3,000 ready-to-make projects or cuts, and cuts over 100 different materials, as well as a Cricut Easy Press. 

  • Jewelry Making & Tinkering Tools: Pliers, wire cutters, strippers, staplers, nail guns, lamps, bench blocks, clamps, hammers, and more. 

  • Painting & Drawing Materials: Acrylic paints, brushes, palettes, aprons, colored pencils and more. 

  • Crafting materials: Stamping, scrapbooking materials, recycled paper, glue, and more. 

MAKERSPACE POLICIES

  • Requirements for patron usage:

    • Library Card

    • 1-Time liability form signed (Click Here to Download)

    • No cost for use/equipment

    • 4-hour daily print limit on 3D printers

      • Cannot combine/roll over print times

      • Large project prints can be broken down to smaller prints over time

      • 1 print a day, per patron, up to 4 hours

      • Files have to be in .stl

  • Age Limitations

    • The MakerSpace is intended for Teens and Adults, so patrons must be 13+ years old to use and participate in workshops.

    • Children are allowed to be in the room as long as they are with a parent and are actively supervised.

    • Children are allowed in MakerSpace if: 

      • They are actively supervised.

      • Not engaged in MakerSpace activities. 

      • Not engaged with staff/taking time from staff.

      • Not interfering, touching equipment, or participating in workshops.

    • Children are allowed to: 

      • Check out the "Free-Bin box" (a box containing failed/test 3d prints).

      • Sit with their parent/guardian.

    • Please direct any inquiries/questions to me or to any MakerSpace staff present in the room.

Coursera (Sign up at the CA State Library website) - Coursera’s mission is to help individuals build the skills they need for in-demand jobs. The platform provides learners with access to more than 5,000 courses and certifications led by top businesses, universities, and organizations. By signing up through the CA State Library website, you will have 6 months of access to the Coursera catalog. After registering and selecting Glendale Library, Arts & Culture, Coursera can be accessed directly at coursera.org.

Make - Online community ranging from classes to new information including 3D printing, electronics, etc.
