Scholl Canyon Fire

On Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at 6:33 p.m., 8 Glendale Fire units (1 Battalion Chief, 5 engine companies, 1 air utility, and 1 basic life support ambulance), under the command of Battalion Chief Bill Lynch, responded to a brush fire located at in Scholl Canyon above the Scholl Canyon Golf Course in the City of Glendale.

Glendale Engine 23 arrived first on the scene and discovered light smoke showing below the fire road above the Scholl Canyon golf course. Firefighters from Glendale, Pasadena and Los Angeles County fire departments coordinated aerial water drops while using hand line hoses on the ground to create a perimeter around the fire and contain it. Knock down of the fire was declared at 7:32 p.m., 59 minutes after units were dispatched to the scene.

The Scholl Canyon fire burned three-quarters of an acre and was 100% contained. Crews remained on scene throughout the night to ensure the safety of the area.

The Glendale Fire Department encourages residents to conduct brush clearance on their properties.   The Department recommends creating a “Defensible Space” which is 100 feet of space around their property where brush and debris has been removed.
