 Welcome to Glendale's Sustainability Office!

Sustainability Officer

David Jones
djones@glendaleca.gov

As the Sustainability Officer for the City of Glendale, I am excited to showcase the sustainability efforts that have been accomplished by so many here at the City.  Our sustainability program is a collaborative effort between various City departments, and yet it is also decentralized across the City. That means that each department at the City has their own sustainability goals and programs that work to contribute to the efforts of the City as a whole. This website aims to give those interested in the City’s sustainability programs a central place at which to find comprehensive and up to date information.  As our sustainability program grows the information provided here will evolve from a “what has been accomplished” platform to a “where are we going” platform.  This website celebrates all the great accomplishments and programs underway at the City of Glendale.

Glendale Climate Action & Adaptation Plan

CAAP Banner Image

The City of Glendale started developing a Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP). A people-focused plan set to protect the community against increasingly frequent extreme weather such as heat waves, wildfires, and drought, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Together with the community, Glendale will plan to reduce emissions and increase resilience.

Strategies and projects in the plan may include improving public transportation options and increasing building efficiency. But we need your help!

We need your help to provide input to the CAAP, spread the word, and take advantage of a climate rebate programs. Tell us what a sustainable and livable Glendale looks like to you and sign up to receive updates  at GlendaleCA.gov/CAAP.

Prohibition on the Use of Gas-Powered Leaf Blowers

Prohibition on the Use of Gas-powered leaf blowers

On August 8, 2023, City Council adopted Ordinance No. 6008 which bans the use of gas-powered leaf blowers in Glendale. This new code is found in Title 8 Chapter 50 of the Glendale Municipal Code

This means that using gas-powered leaf blowers in Glendale is prohibited. However, enforcement and citations will not start until September 1, 2024. Property owners are responsible for compliance and would be cited for violations when enforcement begins.

The Office of Sustainability will be conducting outreach, hosting equipment demonstration events, and developing an information page in the coming weeks. In the meantime, rebates for electric landscaping equipment are available through California Core and the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) for businesses. Glendale Water & Power Electric customers (both residential and commercial) can receive a rebate for the purchase of an electric leaf blower
