Glendale Director of Community Development Hassan Haghani to become

Executive Director for Santa Ana’s Planning and Building Agency

Glendale, CA – The City of Glendale announces the resignation of Hassan Haghani, Director of Community Development. Mr. Haghani served the City of Glendale for 12 years before accepting a position with the City of Santa Ana as their Executive Director of Planning and Building Agency.

Mr. Haghani has a long history in municipal service. He began his career with the City of Los Angeles in 1989 holding many positions in the Planning Department before moving to the City of West Hollywood for seven years where he became a Senior Planner. In January of 2003 Mr. Haghani joined the City of Glendale after serving for the City of South Pasadena as their Transportation Manager. During the past 12 years, Hassan served in many Planning capacities for the City of Glendale and was appointed as the Director of Community Development in 2010.

“The vision and inspiration Hassan Haghani provided to his Department and the Glendale community is a reflection of the day to day quality of life we so enjoy in our business districts and neighborhoods,” stated Mayor Zareh Sinanyan. “We wish him well and expect him to be as successful with the City of Santa Ana."

Hassan Haghani strived to capture the community’s vision for a balanced quality of life. In just the past three years, the Community Development Department under Hassan’s direction has been recognized by the American Planning Association for Distinguished Leadership, Public Outreach, Urban Design Award of Merit, Award of Excellence, and the Transportation Planning Award. The California Building Officials recognized the Glendale Community Development Department as Department of the Year in 2014.

Mr. Haghani has a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning from UCLA. Hassan possesses his certificate as an American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).

“Hassan is well-recognized as a leading urban planner with a keen sense of vision for the community,” said Glendale City Manager Scott Ochoa. "I am sad that we are losing such an energetic and passionate leader in the organization, yet we wish him all the best. He has had a tremendous and positive impact on this community."

Hassan Haghani will continue to serve as the Director of Community Development through mid-May and start with the City of Santa Ana in June.
