Glendale Recognized at CALED’s 35th Annual Training Conference

Glendale, CA – At the 2015 California Association for Local Economic Development (CALED) 35th Annual Conference, The Glendale Economic Development Corporation was recognized with an “Award of Merit” for its Class A Office Attraction Program.

The City Council, acting in its capacity as the Economic Development Corporation, endorsed an aggressive business attraction program for Glendale’s Class A office space. The program focused on Glendale’s “renaissance” including new on-trend housing options and “18-hour” lifestyle amenities such as shopping, restaurants, and nightlife.

From a high of a 25% vacancy rate in 2010, this promotion helped drive Glendale’s Class A office vacancy down to 13.7% by January 2015. The campaign was aimed at attracting office-using industries whose space needs had evolved. In the absence of significant funding for marketing, Glendale concentrated its promotional efforts on showcasing Glendale’s “renaissance” as a City which could provide lifestyle amenities for a modern office tenant.

The economic vibrancy of Glendale is a main priority of the City. With sales tax receipts funding an array of needed City services, having office workers to patronize stores and restaurants is critical to Glendale. This Office Attraction promotion also focused on showcasing the City’s efforts in streamlining the permitting process and work with various city departments to encourage overall business friendliness at every level of tenant and landlord interface.

This has been a banner year for the City of Glendale and Economic Development Corporation since winning the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation “Most Business-Friendly City” Award in November 2014.
