Art Installation to Showcase the Significance of Water
GLENDALE, California – Glendale Water & Power in partnership with AFTA Productions (AFTA), the Glendale Arts & Culture Commission, and the Library, Arts & Culture Department will host “Water Finds A Way” community labyrinth, a temporary art installation highlighting the significance of water. The interactive labyrinth will be placed at the City’s Perkins Plaza at 141 N. Glendale Ave. starting September 18th. Residents can visit and walk through this symbolic concept centered around the importance and necessity of water.
Water Finds A Way a collaboration between AFTA and local artists Chris Ghantous and William Stranger will be created using reclaimed wood, stone filled Earthknit, glass mulch, and will feature a solar powered “water” element in the center. It is a featured installation in AFTA’s YOU ARE HERE temporary public art series curated specifically for the City of Glendale. The series is supported by the City of Glendale and the Glendale Arts & Culture Commission with funding from the Urban Art Plan.
“The Water Finds A Way Public Art Installation is a very unique way for our residents to learn and appreciate this valuable resource and what must be done to make sure we have enough water to supply our residents for many more years to come,” stated Steve Zurn, General Manager of Glendale Water & Power.
Water Finds A Way will be on exhibit from September 18th – November 18th with a community event on September 27th from 12pm – 4pm at the Perkins Plaza. The community event will feature demonstrations on water conservation and drought tolerant landscaping, artist talk, succulent swap, and a tour of the exhibit.
