Grand Opening: New Affordable Housing Project for Working Families

The Housing Authority of the City of Glendale and the San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity will host the Grand Opening Ceremony for a new, three (3) unit, affordable home ownership project for low-income families.

EVENT: Grand Opening Ceremony

WHEN: Saturday, March 12, 2016

LOCATION:   806 East Chestnut Street

TIME: 11:00 a.m.

The Chestnut project involves the development of three (3) new affordable homes at 806 East Chestnut Street for qualified low-income, first time homebuyers.

Habitat is able to provide this development through volunteer labor, donated materials, and fund raising.  The Glendale Housing Authority contributed approximately $400k in funding assistance in the form of land and silent second mortgages for the three (3) homebuyers.

The Habitat Family Selection Committee received 64 applications for the Chestnut homes. Of the applications received, three (3) fortunate families were selected and are given the opportunity to become first-time homebuyers of the Chestnut homes. The families chosen by the Family Selection Committee are based on their relative level of need for decent housing, their willingness to become partners in the Habitat program, and their ability to repay the loan.

Each unit measures approximately 1,300 square feet and contain 3 bedrooms, 2-½ bathrooms, living room, laundry room and a 2-car garage.

Representatives from San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity and the Housing Authority of the City of Glendale will make brief presentations about the development of the project. Following closing remarks, light refreshments will be served.
