10:15 p.m.

On Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 10:15 p.m., five units from the Glendale and Burbank Fire Departments (1 Battalion Chief, 1 engine company, 1 truck company, 2 Hazardous Materials Squads, and 1 basic life support ambulance), under the command of Battalion Chief Brian Richey, responded to a hazardous material release located at 107 West Dryden Street in the City of Glendale.

Glendale Truck 26 arrived first on the scene to discover a two-story apartment complex with 28 units. Firefighters evacuated the building while hazardous materials personnel made several entries into the involved unit to conduct air sampling and ventilation. The American Red Cross provided the residents with temporary housing for the night. At approximately 11:05 a.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2016, all occupants were permitted to return to their individual apartment units.

The Glendale Fire Department resources were initially on scene for four hours during stabilization of the incident.  Crews returned to the apartment complex later Sunday morning to ensure the building continued to be free of hazards and safe for occupation.

The mission of the Glendale Fire Department is to protect life and property by providing the highest level of service to the community.  For more information about the Glendale Fire Department, go to www.glendalefire.org.
