Multiple Car Traffic Collision on Northbound 5 Freeway

 

On Friday, April 8, 2016 at 5:44a.m., eight units from the Glendale Fire Departments (1 Battalion Chief, 2 engine companies, 1 truck company, and 4 basic life support ambulances), under the command of Battalion Chief Cody Smith, responded to a traffic collision located on the 5 freeway north of the 134 freeway in the City of Glendale.

 

Glendale Engine 21 arrived first on the scene to discover a seven-vehicle collision blocking lanes on the 5 freeway with one of the vehicles over the embankment. Firefighters quickly secured the scene and assisted removing numerous occupants from their vehicles.

 

Glendale fire paramedics assessed multiple patients on scene. Paramedics transported two patients with serious injuries and three patients with minor injuries to area hospitals. One patient perished during the accident.

 

The Glendale Fire Department resources were on scene for two hours and fourteen minutes to assist the coroner's office.
