Glendale, CA – On Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 1:30 p.m., Glendale Police Department personnel will participate in the 5.5 mile Law Enforcement Special Olympic Torch Run, joined by Tri-Valley Special Olympics and The Campbell Center, to raise awareness and funding for the Special Olympics. This is the final leg before the Annual Summer Games that will be held June 11th - 12th at California State University, Long Beach.

The Glendale leg will begin at Glenoaks Boulevard and Alameda Avenue with an anticipated torch handoff from Burbank Police Department at 1:30pm. Law Enforcement personnel will run through the streets of Glendale to Colorado Boulevard and the 2 freeway where the torch will be handed over to LAPD North East Division personnel.

During the run, officers raise awareness and funds for the more than 22,323 athletes of Special Olympics Southern California. They also educate the community about the gifts, talents and abilities of people with intellectual disabilities and promote unity and respect for all.

Children and adults with intellectual disabilities who participate in Special Olympics develop improved physical fitness and motor skills, greater self-confidence and a more positive self-image.
