South Glendale Community Plan Workshops - TIME/LOCATION CHANGE

The City of Glendale’s Community Development Department (CDD) will be hosting a series of City Council study sessions examining different facets of the South Glendale Community Plan.  Currently in development, the plan will serve as the official guide to neighborhood and commercial district development in South Glendale. These meetings are geared towards discussing land use and transportation framework, planning direction, and facilitating City Council input.

These specific study sessions are intended to edify the City Council on the current state of the plan and the resident feedback we’ve accrued over the last three years.

Each workshop will occur from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Planning Hearing Room located at 633 E. Broadway, Room 105, Glendale, CA 91206. **NOTE: The final meeting in this series will be Tuesday, July 26, however, the time has been changed from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  The meeting will take place in City Council Chambers located at 613 E. Broadway, Glendale, CA 91206.

Below are the event dates and topic overviews:

7/12What is the South Glendale Community Plan and a History of South Glendale Development

History of development actions in South Glendale and why we need a community plan. Past down-zonings and overdeveloped residential properties are reflected in the development pattern. The development pattern, existing zoning and transportation network—including transit oriented development- set parameters for future growth.

7/19 - The Future of Residential Neighborhoods in South Glendale

Review of the residential areas, centers, corridors and neighborhoods (planning areas in the Community Plan).  Some discussion of small lot subdivisions and condominium conversions. Maintain-Enhance-Transform map discussion. Staff will ask Council to provide direction for analysis of the project and two alternatives for preparation of the EIR.

7/26 - The Transportation Network in South Glendale - TIME AND LOCATION CHANGED

Direction to grow along transportation corridors. Discussion of transportation impact fees and new laws affecting transportation.

Free parking is available in the Civic Center parking garage.

These City Council study sessions are the culmination of three years of continuous outreach events geared towards soliciting public feedback for incorporation into the South Glendale Community Plan. In total, hundreds of residents have been given the opportunity to contribute to the plan’s development. Each event received widespread online and print promotion, and including dedicated ads in the Glendale News Press and LA Weekly.

Below are brief overviews of each past outreach event:

October 2013 – Food & Film at the Train Tracks

Hosted at the Larry Zarian Glendale Transportation Center, this family-friendly event was meant to survey residents on multi-modal transportation while providing walking tours, food trucks, and a screening of the 1944 film noir classic Double Indemnity. Roughly 300 residents enjoyed the festivities.

November 2013 – Fall Festival in the Park

About 300 attendees congregated at Cerritos Park to participate in the transportation survey while exploring informational booths and activity stations. A soccer camp featuring a professional soccer player was the main draw of the night.

October 2015 – Tropico Halloween Spooktacle

Set amongst Halloween-themed activities and games at Cerritos Park, about 300 residents received an update on the South Glendale Community Plan and insights into how their previous feedback had helped shape it. Additional feedback was solicited as well.
