Glendale Police Department Hosts Citizens Academy

The Glendale Police Department will run a three-month Citizens Academy this summer beginning June 19, 2013. Classes are held once a week, usually on a Wednesday evening. The GPD has offered three previous Citizens Academies in the past. The courses have garnered rave reviews from former participants. The Academy gives participants a broad background in law enforcement and a peek into the inner workings of the Glendale Police Department. Participants come away with a better understanding how they can partner with the Glendale Police Department to reduce or prevent crime and keep Glendale safe.

Department Taught
Current members of the Department will present the sessions. The course will highlight the inner workings of the GPD and help you understand how partnering with the Department can help reduce crime and keep Glendale safe. Specifically, the sessions will cover:

  • Narcotics
  • Crime Scene Investigations
  • Gangs
  • Financial Crimes and Identity Theft
  • Robbery/Homicide
  • Burglary
  • Traffic
  • Domestic Violence
  • Terrorism
  • SWAT
  • A Day at the Range, and much more!

Who Can Attend?
Anyone who works or lives in Glendale and is over the age of 18 is eligible to apply to attend this free program. However, the class limit is 25 participants to ensure personal attention and time for questions. Applicants must pass a background check before entering the class. Applications are available at the Glendale Police station or the Glendale Police Foundation website (https://gpf.org). If you would like more information, please contact Sgt. John Gilkerson.
