Glendale, CA - On February 16, 2017, from 7:00am-12:00pm, the Glendale Police Department conducted a commercial vehicle inspection checkpoint in collaboration with the California Highway Patrol and Santa Monica Police Department.  Officers directed commercial vehicles within a five-mile radius to the checkpoint location at Brand Blvd and Cerritos Ave where a full safety inspection was conducted by specially trained officers.

A total of 196 violations were enforced and 43 citations were issued.  A total of 7 trucks were impounded due to equipment, registration and unlicensed driver violations.  In addition, 25 trucks were placed out of service.

In 2015 alone, 116,000 people were injured in crashes involving large trucks, and another 4,067 people were killed, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

"The checkpoint was to ensure the safe operation of commercial vehicles. During this operation, we conducted inspections to ensure trucks are mechanically safe to operate on city streets and highways.” – Sgt. Rafael Quintero

This campaign is a reminder that proper tire maintenance is a public safety issue and checking a vehicle’s tires should always be part of a roadside inspection.

The commercial vehicle inspections are deployed throughout the year across Los Angeles County.
