Councilmember Zareh Sinanyan selected as Mayor

Glendale, CA – On Tuesday, April 8, 2014, Councilmember Zareh Sinanyan was selected as the new Mayor by fellow Council Members.  Glendale Council Members are elected by the public at large while the Mayor is selected by the Council Members on an annual basis. Glendale Council Members serve four-year terms with an election cycle every two years.

Mr. Sinanyan was elected to the Glendale City Council in April of 2013 and has since served as the Chair of the Housing Authority. Councilman Sinanyan has been involved with the City of Glendale directly since 2006, when he was appointed to Glendale’s Parks, Recreation and Community Service’s Commission. During his two years as a Parks Commissioner, Mr. Sinanyan participated in the upgrading and opening of several parks throughout Glendale. From 2008 through 2013, he served on Glendale's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Advisory Committee, helping the Community Development Department and the City navigate through a period of drastic decreases in the available Federal block grants. From 2009 through 2011, Mr. Sinanyan chaired the CDBG Advisory Committee, ensuring increased cooperation between individual Commissioners and staff. Councilmember Sinanyan and his wife Lori have been married for 15 years.  They live in Glendale with their four children.
