Howard Street Vegetation Fire

On Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 3:29 p.m., 7 Glendale units (1 Battalion Chief command team, 4 engine companies, and 2 basic life support ambulances) along with Burbank fire department personnel responded to a reported vegetation fire located at 1315 Howard Street in the city of Glendale.

Glendale Engine 24 arrived on scene and discovered smoke and flames showing to the rear of the structure. The fire was located at the back of the property line. Firefighters aggressively attacked the fire by deploying multiple hose lines. Knock down of the fire was declared at 3:52 p.m., 23 minutes after units were dispatched to the scene.

Glendale Water and Power (GWP) was on scene to assess damage to power lines. Three residents were without power because of the fire. GWP is working to restore power to the residents within two hours.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Glendale Fire Department reminds residents to conduct vegetation/brush clearance known as creating a defensible space on their properties. Clearing 100 feet of space around structures from brush and debris is a crucial defense mechanism to protect homes from being destroyed by a brush fire.

The mission of the Glendale Fire Department is to protect life and property by providing the highest level of service to the community.  For more information about the Glendale Fire Department, go to www.glendalefire.org.
