Glendale, CA – On September 17, 2018 at 12:42 am, Glendale officers responded to the 100 block of Wonderview Drive regarding a person heard yelling for help. Upon arrival at the residence, the officers made contact with a female, identified as 38 year old Rui Yun Guan.

After speaking to Guan, the officers conducted a welfare check of the home and upon entering the residence, they discovered an elaborate marijuana grow and a sophisticated ventilation system.

Glendale Detectives were notified and a search warrant was served at the residence.  Detectives recovered 604 plants at various stages of growth throughout the home. The grow operation used high-powered lighting, fans, and air conditioning to control the temperature inside the residence as well as an air-filtering system to control the odor of  marijuana. Further investigation revealed the electricity at the location was being stolen to facilitate the marijuana grow operation.

The Glendale Fire Department and Glendale Water and Power responded to the scene to assist detectives with the investigation and disconnect electrical services at the location for public safety. Often, suspects involved in illegal marijuana grow operations will bypass the utility company’s meter to steal electricity to avoid being detected by the utility company and law enforcement. In addition, the residence was “yellow tagged” by the City of Glendale

Guan was placed under arrest and booked for grand theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.  At the conclusion of the investigation, the case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration. Guan may face additional charges.

The marijuana grow was dismantled and items of evidence were collected by the Glendale Police Department for further investigation.

There was no explanation as to why Guan was yelling for help inside the residence.
