In the early morning hours of January 31, 2018, at least 30 cars were broken into in La Crescenta in the area of Pennsylvania Avenue and Montrose Avenue.  One man was arrested in connection to those crimes, while yet another man was identified through DNA that was collected by Glendale Police Department Forensics Specialist. That man was later identified as Raymond Gardner, a 26 year old man from Ontario, California. Although an identification had been made of Gardner, there was still follow-up work to be done before an arrest could be made.

In early October of this year, the detectives working the case received two additional cases that further linked Gardner to criminal activity.

One of those new cases involved a theft from a car in which a DNA sample of the suspect was obtained.  Once tested, it was determined that this DNA also came back to Gardner.

The second case was another theft from a car in which the suspect used the victim’s credit card in a drive through at a local restaurant. The surveillance footage captured by the restaurant was given to the detectives and they immediately recognized the suspect as Gardner.

On October 31, 2018, detectives from the Burglary Detail of the Glendale Police Department went to a residence in Covina which they believed Gardner was staying. Upon their arrival and approach to the home they saw a man they recognized as Gardner looking out of a window.  However, when the detectives made contact with the other occupants of the home they were told he was not there. Because the detectives had already verified the presence of Gardner at the home, they were able to enter the home to look for him. Upon doing so they were able to locate Gardner and take him into custody. The detectives also located additional stolen property in the home. Gardner is currently in custody and awaiting his arraignment which is scheduled for November 1, 2018.
