Pedestrian and Driving Safety Workshop

By Armen Garabedian

GLENDALE, CA - On Thursday, June 5, 2014, at 10:00 am, Armen Garabedian, Community Service Officer with the Glendale Police Department will present a workshop on Pedestrian and Driving Safety at the Glendale Central Library Auditorium, 222 East Harvard Street. The workshop is in Armenian. Admission is free. Library visitors receive 3 hours FREE parking across the street at The Market Place parking structure with validation at the Loan Desk.

The Glendale Library, Arts & Culture Department has planned a series of Survival Skills Workshops to inform and educate the Glendale residents on all services and resources available at the City of Glendale. Library, Arts & Culture and the Police Department has put together a Pedestrian and Driving safety workshop. This first workshop will focus on Pedestrian and Driving Safety. The purpose of this workshop is to focus on older adults, and road safety issues, and to provide adults with strategies for safer walking. According to Glendale News-Press, “last year, five people lost their lives in pedestrian-involved traffic collisions. Police have logged 14 pedestrian deaths — most of which have been seniors — between 2008 and 2013.” We strongly believe by educating and re-enforcing the rules regarding road safety we can prevent the number of fatalities in future. Therefore, we urge our community members and advocates to participate and to bring ideas to improve walkability in our community.
