Michele Flynn Appointed as Director of Finance

Glendale, CA – On Tuesday, July 30, 2019, the Glendale City Council confirmed the appointment of Michele Flynn as the City’s Director of Finance. Ms. Flynn has provided dedicated service to the Glendale community for over 19 years through the positions of Principal Internal Auditor, Budget Administrator, City Auditor, and Assistant Director of Finance. Since April of 2019, Michele has served as the Interim Director of Finance.

With more than 30 years in the audit field, Michele earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from California State University, Los Angeles, and a Master of Business Administration from Woodbury University. Early on in her career, Michele worked in public accounting to earn her CPA before moving into internal audit for Home Savings of America. She spent the next six years performing a variety of operational and compliance audits while continuing to establish a great foundation for her audit career. Michele eventually took a position with Ernst & Young in their internal audit section where she was quickly promoted to Audit Manager. When the City of Glendale was forming their internal audit function, Michele was one of the two authorized positions to start the group. Michele oversaw internal audit, as well as the City’s administrative investigation function.

“Michele is committed to the City’s long-lasting culture of accountability, transparency, and fiscal responsibility,” said City Manager Yasmin Beers. “Her depth of experience overseeing the audit and finance sections at various levels will serve the City well and makes her well-suited for this position.”

In addition to her work experience and service to the Glendale community through her roles with the City, Michele was involved with Soroptimist International of Glendale. She served the group in various capacities such as Treasurer and Service Grants Chair where she led the committee to make funding decisions and safeguarded the organization’s finances.

Mayor Ara Najarian stated, “I am confident that Michele will help advance the quality of life in Glendale with wise fiscal stewardship.” “Michele brings an understanding of our City’s finances and all the necessary qualities to successfully serve as Glendale’s Director of Finance.”

Michele has two children - Connor, 15, and Maddy, 14.
