Senior Congregate Meals Program Modified in Accordance with LA County Guidelines

Glendale, CA – On Wednesday, March 11, 2020, the Los Angeles County Workforce Development, Aging, and Community Services Department held an emergency meeting with all Los Angeles County contracted agencies (including the City of Glendale) who provide the Elderly Nutrition Program (ENP). During this meeting, agencies received a directive to suspend all older adult social gatherings by providing an alternative meal delivery plan for participants enrolled in the ENP program. The directive is effective beginning today, March 12, and will be enforced for the foreseeable future.

Current evidence indicates that the risk of severe illness from COVID-19 increases with age and individuals with underlying medical conditions are also considered to be at higher risk for severe illness. As a result, the City of Glendale has developed a contingency plan to continue feeding seniors in our community.

  • Meal Distribution Plan for the Congregate Meals programs
    • Lunch Pick Up times are from 11:30am-12:30pm
    • Adult Recreation Center – 201 East Colorado, Glendale, CA 91205
      • Will distribute congregate meals at two adjacent locations:
        • Louise Street entrance for seniors with last names A-L.
        • Main Lobby entrance near the Glendale Central Library for seniors with last names M-Z.
      • Meals will be distributed 7 days per week at this site.
    • Sparr Heights Community Center – 1613 Glencoe Way, Glendale, CA 91208
      • Paloma Ave entrance (all seniors; one pick up zone)
      • Meals will be distributed Monday through Friday.
    • Pacific Community Center – 501 South Pacific Ave., Glendale, CA 91204
      • Pick up at the main entrance of the lobby (all seniors; one pick up zone)
      • Meals will be distributed Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
  • Dial-A-Ride seniors who attend ENP can remain in their Dial-A-Ride transport bus and City staff will hand them their meals.
    • All Senior Dial-A-Ride participants should continue to reserve their rides.

The City of Glendale cares about keeping seniors safe and healthy – The contingency plan will help ensure that our ENP seniors get wholesome meals, safeguarding their health during this time of need.  The Home Delivered Meals Program will continue to provide service with additional safety measures in place.

There are currently no reported cases of COVID-19 in Glendale. Per the latest information from local, state, and federal public health officials, the risk of contracting the virus remains low. There are steps individuals can take to help minimize and prevent the spread of COVID-19. These include:
