Pair Arrested For Street Racing-Vehicles Impounded

On 7/10/20, just after 10 p.m., a patrol officer was working traffic enforcement in the area of Glenoaks Blvd and Alma St when they observed two vehicles come to a stop side by side at a red light.  When the light turned green, both vehicles loudly and rapidly accelerated to speeds in excess of 80 MPH in the posted 40 MPH zone as they attempted to gain superiority over one another.

The officer was able to catch up to both vehicles at a red light at Highland Ave and pull them over.  The drivers, 28-year-old Derenik Zakarian of Glendale and 23-year-old Karo Kadiyan of Burbank, were both arrested for illegal speed contest.  Officers determined Kadiyan was on probation for participating in an illegal speed contest and for reckless driving.  Both vehicles were impounded at the scene.
