Glendale Utility Box Murals to be Painted on October 16-18, 2020

GLENDALE, CA –The Glendale Arts and Culture Commission has issued a call for artists to apply to paint murals on City of Glendale utility boxes from October 16 – 18, 2020. The program’s goal is to bring beauty to unexpected places throughout the Jewel City. Selected artists will each receive a $750 stipend to paint a utility box this Fall. Interested artists must submit their applications by Friday, September 18, 2020, at 5:00 p.m. Visit our website for more information.

Beyond The Box is a utility box mural project supported by the City of Glendale and the Glendale Arts & Culture Commission, with funding from the Urban Art Program. Now in its seventh year, Beyond The Box beautifies the city’s streetscape with colorful and interesting murals installed by selected artists on city-owned utility boxes. To date, over 100 artists have completed over 100 murals on utility boxes throughout the city. This program has been very well received by both residents and visitors of the City of Glendale.

The mission of the Glendale Arts & Culture Commission is to enrich the human experience, reinforce Glendale’s identity and civic pride through arts and culture, and to recognize the importance of arts to our quality of life and to the local economy. This is accomplished by consciously integrating arts and culture into the daily life of the people of Glendale through urban design, planning, economic development, and education.
