Four Arrested for Grand Theft - Catalytic Converters Recovered

On 10/2/2020 at approximately 2:30 a.m., an officer patrolling in the area of Glenoaks Blvd and Western Ave observed a vehicle run a stop sign.  The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle that was occupied by four males.  The driver, 21-year-old Kevin Caldera of Los Angeles, advised the officer that he had left his license at home.

While collecting identification from the passengers, 19-year-old Juan Ponce of Los Angeles, 19-year-old Antonio Ponce of Palmdale, and 18-year-old Michael Dominguez of Los Angeles, the officer noticed a car jack and reciprocating blade in between the rear passenger’s (Ponce’s) legs.

The officer also noticed a reciprocating saw under the driver’s seat and what appeared to be a catalytic converter inside of the vehicle.  Assisting officers arrived and attempted to assist in questioning the occupants.  The subjects repeatedly told officers they were “just driving around” and “passing by.”

A search of the vehicle produced numerous reciprocating saw blades and two catalytic converters that appeared to have been cut off of vehicles.  All four males were subsequently arrested for grand theft.

Glendale PD officers continue to proactively patrol the city to keep residents safe.  Please know you can always report suspicious activity to our non-emergency line at (818) 548-4911, or if there is an emergency, please call 9-1-1.
