Glendale Water & Power to Provide Increased Discounts for GWP Cares Bill Relief Program

GLENDALE, California – On Tuesday, December 15, 2020, the Glendale City Council approved increased discounts for Glendale Water & Power’s (GWP) Cares Bill Relief Program which provides financial assistance to customers that have been impacted by COVID-19. The new discounts are below:

  • One-time bill credit of $210 to eligible residential electric customers living in single family homes ($60 increase from original discount).
  • One-time bill credit of $100 to eligible residential electric customers living in multi-family homes ($20 increase from original discount).
  • One-time bill credit of $90 to residential low-income customers enrolled in GWP’s Senior/Glendale Care low-income discount program ($30 increase from original discount).
  • One-time bill credit of $175 to eligible small commercial electric customers ($25 increase from original discount).
  • One-time bill credit of $3,250 to eligible medium and large commercial electric customers ($3,100 increase from original discount).

Customers that previously received a discount under the original program will automatically receive the difference between the new higher discount and the discount they already received and do not need to reapply. The GWP Cares Bill Relief program enrollment deadline has been extended to February 28, 2021.

The program launched on July 1, 2020 to provide financial assistance to customers who have been affected by COVID-19. Applicants must apply during the enrollment time period, and will receive the one-time credit on their electric bill if they meet eligibility criteria. Customers will be enrolled on a first come, first served basis (based upon the date of submittal of a complete application) up to the program budget cap. The residential income qualifying guidelines are listed below. *The income eligibility guidelines are generally based on the income eligibility levels set for tax payers in various categories to receive the maximum benefit under ‘SEC. 6428. 2020 RECOVERY REBATES FOR INDIVIDUALS” of the Federal “Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act” or “CARES Act” signed into law on March 27, 2020, i.e., “(1) $150,000 in the case of a joint return, “(2) $112,500 in the case of a head of household, and “(3) $75,000 in the case of a taxpayer not described in paragraph (1) or (2)”.
