Male Arrested for Possessing a Loaded Handgun

On July 15, 2021, at approximately 10:00 p.m., a Glendale PD patrol officer conducted a records check of a vehicle driving in the area of Glenoaks Blvd and Highland Ave and discovered the vehicles registration had expired in 2020, however; the license plate had a 2021 expiration tab attached to it.

The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle for the violation and contacted the driver, identified as 28-year-old Vahagn Vardanyan of North Hollywood, regarding the violation. Vardanyan stated he had just recently purchased the vehicle and was unaware of the violation. Officers asked Vardanyan and his front passenger, identified as 27-year-old Carlos Meza-Hernandez of Glendale, to exit the vehicle so they could further investigate the violation. During a search of Meza-Hernandez, officers recovered a loaded handgun concealed in one of his pockets.

The recovered firearm had a serial number on it, however; a records check of the serial number revealed it was unregistered. Vardanyan was arrested for displaying a false registration tab. Meza-Hernandez was arrested and booked for illegal possession of a concealed firearm.
