Glendale Approves Multiple Affordable Housing Projects

Glendale, CA -On August 10, 2021, the Glendale Housing Authority unanimously voted to execute a Letter of Loan Commitment and Lease Option with Linc Housing Corporation and National Community Renaissance (collectively, Linc Housing and National CORE) for the development of a 298,020 square foot, five-story, multi-family residential development containing 340-units.

The proposed project consists of the demolition of existing on-site structures and surface parking lot on the 2.8-acre site located at 515 Pioneer Drive in Glendale, and construction of a new, 100% affordable Density Bonus Housing project. All of the units within the proposed development, exclusive of three manager units, are reserved for extremely low, very low, and low income senior and small family households earning between 30% to 80% area median income.

Housing Authority Chair and Councilmember Ardy Kassakhian stated, “The creation of more affordable housing is at the top of our priority list and we are thrilled to partner with Linc Housing and National CORE to bring much-needed affordable housing to Glendale. We continue to expand our inventory to meet the housing needs of residents across the City and do our part in solving the State’s housing crisis.”

The August 10, 2021 Public Hearing follows the Glendale Housing Authority’s approval of two additional affordable projects. On May 4, 2021, the Housing Authority authorized a Letter of Loan Commitment and Lease Option with Meta Housing Corporation to develop a new construction, 127-unit affordable senior project at 900 E. Broadway called Citrus Crossing. In addition, the Glendale Housing Authority approved a Letter of Loan Commitment and Lease Option with Abode Communities for the historic preservation and adaptive reuse of the Harrower Lab campus at 912-920 E. Broadway, a 40-unit affordable housing project for seniors called Harrower Village.

“These projects will expand access and opportunities for individuals and families in our community,” said Glendale Mayor Paula Devine. We look forward to working with Linc Housing and National Core, as well as a range of other partners to continue addressing the housing crisis and preserve the city’s vibrancy.”

The Glendale Housing Authority’s authorization of the Letter of Loan Commitment and Lease Option with Linc Housing and National CORE, and the City Council’s approval of a Density Bonus and Inclusionary Housing Plan application and associated environmental review concludes a one-year planning process which awarded three different, qualified developers the right to develop three distinct affordable housing projects, totaling 507 units.
