Traffic Stop Leads to Male Arrested on Multiple Weapons Charges
On August 20, 2021 just after 11:00 a.m., a Glendale Police officer assigned to GPD’s Traffic Bureau was conducting speed enforcement in the area of Canada Blvd. and Woodland Ave. when they noticed a vehicle travelling 55 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone.
The officer conducted a traffic stop, and upon approaching the driver (identified as 33-year-old Hrant Khachatryan of Glendale) the officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana. While speaking with Khachatryan, the officer observed a pistol magazine in the vehicle’s center console.
A records check revealed that Khachatryan’s driver’s license was suspended.
Assisting units arrived, and a vehicle search produced a handgun loaded with high capacity magazine, over a dozen plastic bags filled with marijuana, an empty liquor bottle, and a large amount of cash in various denominations.
Khachatryan was subsequently arrested and booked for carrying a loaded firearm in public, possessing a high capacity magazine, marijuana sales, driving under the influence, operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock device, and driving with a suspended license.
