Five Arrests Made for Vehicle Theft/Carjacking

On September 4, 2021 just after 10:00 p.m., a GPD officer initiated a traffic stop for expired registration near the intersection of Altura Ave. and Lowell Ave. The vehicle appeared to be pulling over, but then quickly accelerated, initiating a pursuit. The vehicle attempted to make a turn, but collided with a curb lane, drove over a sidewalk, and onto a lawn on the 4200 block of Boston Ave. The driver then fled on foot through residential neighborhoods. The driver, 41-year-old Luis Garcia of Pasadena, was ultimately detained on the 3700 block of Altura Ave. During the investigation, it was learned that the vehicle Garcia was driving had been reported stolen, and that Garcia did not have a driver’s license. Garcia was subsequently arrested for vehicle theft and evading.

On September 13, 2021 at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Honolulu Ave. and Pennsylvania Ave. regarding a male who was seen pulling on door handles in the area. The GPD Airship was overhead and witnessed a male, later identified as 20-year-old Daniel Rodrigues of Los Angeles, pull on door handles of parked vehicles and then drive northbound on New York Ave. The Airship assisted in directing ground units to the vehicle Rodrigues was seen driving. During the investigation, officers learned that the vehicle Rodrigues was driving had been reported stolen, and a search of the vehicle produced several pieces of stolen luggage. Rodrigues was arrested for vehicle theft, tampering with a vehicle, and receiving known stolen property.

On September 20, 2021 just after 4:00 p.m., officers responded to the 1900 block of Las Flores Dr. and observed a male, later identified as 28-year-old Arsen Emboyan (transient) laying in the driveway of a residence. Emboyan had arrived at the location on a motorcycle that officers discovered had been reported stolen a couple of days prior. Officers learned that Emboyan was on active probation, and discovered that he was in possession of a baggie of heroin. Emboyan was subsequently arrested for vehicle theft and possessing narcotics.

On September 22, 2021 at approximately 10:20 p.m., officers located a stolen vehicle travelling on the 200 block of S Central Ave. The officers conducted a felony stop, and the driver, a juvenile, was ultimately arrested for vehicle theft.

On September 23, 2021 at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 700 block of S Verdugo Rd. regarding a fight and possible grand theft of a vehicle. During the investigation it was learned that 27-year-old Ryan Curiel (transient) had arrived at the location and attempt to gain entry of a parked vehicle. Curiel was in possession of a shaved key and a debit card belonging to another individual. Curiel was subsequently arrested for vehicle theft, car-jacking, battery, and an outstanding warrant.
