Brand Library & Art Center Hosts Women Painters West exhibit, “A Century of California Women Artists”

GLENDALE, CA — Glendale Library, Arts & Culture presents “A Century of California Women Artists” at the Brand Library & Art Center, commemorating the heritage, challenges and accomplishments by members of Women Painters West for the last 100 years. The exhibition features 100 new, contemporary works by current Women’s Painters West members inspired by past member artists, as well as showcasing 25 original paintings by past members, on loan from Southern California museums and private collections.

Women Painters West is the oldest organization of its kind recognizing contemporary women artists and their historical sisters. Since its inception in 1921, many members have achieved great success and acclaim both nationally and internationally, including Mabel Alvarez, Kathryn Woodman Leighton, and Elsie Palmer Payne. Today, Women Painters West is a diverse multi-generational group of 200 women artists that awards scholarships to art students in southern California, assists community art programs and enriches and enhances members’ professional opportunities.

The 100-year celebration will be held November 13, 2021 through January 8, 2022 at Brand Library & Art Center in Glendale, California, one of the most stunning exhibition spaces in Southern California.
