Traffic Stop Leads to Male Arrested for Identity Theft and Narcotics Charges

On November 27, 2021 just after midnight, an officer assigned to Glendale PD’s patrol bureau conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle near the intersection of Verdugo Rd. and Wilson Ave.

The driver, identified as 37-year-old Sargis Karapetyan (transient), was unable to provide a driver’s license. It should be noted that Karapetyan initially provided officers a false name. Assisting officers arrived, and a butane refill injector and a folding knife were observed in plain sight along with a bent paper clip and a clear plastic baggie in the vehicle.

A subsequent vehicle search revealed methamphetamine, a gallon size ziplock bag of a white powdery substance, a wallet with a parole card inside of it, and several documents containing personal identifying information for approximately 13 other individuals including credit cards, bank account numbers, various usernames and passwords, and a set of U.S. Postal arrow keys. A records check revealed that Karapetyan was on active parole and had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

Karapetyan was subsequently arrested and booked for identity theft, providing false identification, possessing burglary tools, possessing narcotics and controlled substances, and for driving on a suspended license.
