Convicted Felon in Possession of Firearm Arrested

On January 26, 2022 at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers assigned to Glendale PD’s Special Enforcement Detail (SED) were travelling on the 600 block of Solway St. when they noticed a vehicle with several vehicle code violations pull into and park partially in a residential driveway. The officers observed a male, who was later identified as 36-year-old Artur Arakelyan of North Hollywood, exit the driver’s side of the vehicle and walk toward the residence. While approaching the vehicle, officers noticed a chemical smell emitting from the vehicle. Officers located Arakelyan walking in a courtyard nearby and contacted him. While speaking with Arakelyan, assisting officers located a metal case containing two baggies, one of heroin and one of methamphetamine, along with other paraphernalia nearby. A search of the vehicle Arakelyan was seen exiting produced a loaded handgun and a methamphetamine pipe. During the investigation, officers learned that Arakelyan had previously been convicted of a felony and was prohibited from possessing a firearm. Arakelyan was subsequently arrested and booked for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, owning ammunition while prohibited, possessing controlled substances while armed, and possessing narcotics and controlled substance paraphernalia.
