Statement from the Chief – Arrest of Memphis Officers

Glendale, California**MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF**

The Glendale Police Department and I are aware of the appalling police action in Memphis, Tennessee on January 7th. What is seen in the video can only be described as police brutality and a lack of humanity. That brutality resulted in the tragic death of Mr. Tyre Nichols.

The five suspects (former police officers) have been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, amongst other charges. These police officers do not represent our agency or the greater law enforcement community. The Glendale Police Department and I condemn their actions in the strongest possible terms and extend our deepest condolences to the victim's family and loved ones.

Our job as police officers is to protect the community against those that wish to cause it harm. Those former Memphis police officers failed their community and the oath they swore to uphold. No one should ever fear for their safety, or unjustly lose their life, at the hands of police officers who are sworn to protect our entire community.

The Glendale Police Department and I will continue collaborating with our community to improve ourselves and meet the expectations of those that live, work, and visit Glendale. We are committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards in service and ensuring the people we encounter everyday are treated with dignity, respect, and professionalism, regardless of their background or circumstances.

We wish peace upon the City of Memphis and the victim's family in their pursuit of justice for their loved one.

Regards,

Chief Manuel Cid – Glendale Police Department, CA.
