Community Meeting: Glendale Narrows Riverwalk Bridge Connections
Glendale, CA – As the City of Glendale continues with Phase II and moves into Phase III of the Glendale Narrows Riverwalk Project, it is seeking additional community input on the development of this community resource. Residents and local businesses are urged to attend a community meeting from 6:30 – 8:00 pm on Thursday, September 11 at the Pacific Community Center Gymnasium at 501 South Pacific Avenue to discuss possible bridge locations and designs to connect Glendale to Griffith Park and Los Angeles. Two additional meetings will be held in the next few months to further refine community ideas for locations and design.
Opened in 2012, Riverwalk is located across from Griffith Park and follows the north bank of the Los Angeles River from Bette Davis Park past DreamWorks Studios to the 134 Freeway. It currently provides approximately a half-mile of recreational trail with public art installations, and connects two parks and an equestrian facility.
The City of Glendale is currently designing and building extensions of the pedestrian and bicycle connections and a continuation of the bike path along the one mile stretch of the Los Angeles River within the city of Glendale. The City is seeking community input on the completion of the project, bridging the Glendale community with the Los Angeles community. One bridge will cross the Los Angeles River and connect the Riverwalk bike path with the River bike trail adjacent to Griffith Park. The other bridge will cross the Verdugo Wash and connect to Atwater Village. Alternative locations have been identified and will be presented at community meetings to spur conversation and gain consensus for a final location that will best serve the community.
Completion of the Glendale Narrows Riverwalk project offers important opportunities for the City of Glendale including increased access for residents and visitors to the LA River and potentially to Griffith Park, stronger connectivity to bike, pedestrian and possibly equestrian paths, and improved access to the Grand Central Creative Campus, River Glen Opportunity Area, and San Fernando Creative Corridor.
