GLENDALE, CA – The Glendale Police Department, in partnership with the Montrose Shopping Park Association and the Montrose Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce, opened the doors to the Department’s new Montrose Substation during a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday, June 7.
“Having a substation in Montrose is a big deal,” said Chief Manny Cid to a full room, noting community partnerships are an essential component of public safety success. “Even though Glendale has a small-town feel, we’re a 30-square-mile city. To be able to maintain a great response time and to have a consistent presence up here, which is a big part of deterring crime, and engaging with folks in and around Montrose, this substation is important.”
The new substation is located at 3600 Ocean View Blvd., #11, and replaces the former substation located just above Honolulu Ave.
The substation increases the Glendale Police Department’s visibility in Montrose and in the city’s north. The new space provides officers a comfortable place to complete some of their essential tasks, such as writing incident reports, which typically requires them to drive to the Department’s main station in Downtown Glendale. The substation also creates a community engagement hub to build relationships between the police and residents, as well as a place where officers can briefly rest.
Community members, members of the Glendale City Council and Glendale Police and Fire personnel attended the noon ceremony, which was organized by the Montrose Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce. The new substation will also serve as the headquarters of the Montrose Shopping Park Association.
Representatives for Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, State Assemblymember Laura Friedman and State Senator Anthony Portantino provided congratulatory remarks and certificates to the Glendale Police Department and the Montrose Shopping Park Association to celebrate the ribbon cutting.
The Montrose Substation will not maintain regular hours, though residents can connect with available officers at the substation.
