water main shut-off controls are
and how to use them.

Have several evacuation routes.

Have an emergency meeting
location.

Have an emergency supply kit.

Appoint an out-of-area friend or
relative as a point of contact.

Carry a list of emergency
contact numbers with you and in
your emergency supply kit.

Keep an extra emergency supply
kit in your car.

Have a portable radio or scanner
so you can stay updated on the
emergency.

Dress in appropriate clothing. Have
goggles and a dry bandana or particle
mask handy.

Remain close to your house, drink

ready to leave.

The American Red Cross offers information regarding preparedness at school, work, home, and in your community. They encourage everyone to “Get a Kit, Make a Plan, and Be Informed.”

Los Angeles County - An excellent source of information for the areas prone to flooding, along with a new survival guide and other useful subjects.

California Office of Emergency Services - Identifies preparedness tips related to family, business, schools, the disabled, and pets.

A Citizen’s Guide to Disaster Preparedness provides information regarding emergency planning, disaster supply kits, evacuation plans, shelters, and National Security emergencies.

Ready.gov provides in-depth information about specific steps one can take, whether at home, work, or even at school to make sure they are informed and prepared in case an emergency occurs while taking care of everyday business.
