Two Arrested for Identity Theft

On May 29, 2022 just after 9:00 p.m., a Glendale PD officer assigned to patrol observed a vehicle with expired registration tabs parked near the intersection of Boston Ave. and Santa Carlotta St.  A records check confirmed that the registration for the vehicle was expired, and the officer noticed there were two occupants inside of the vehicle and subsequently conducted a traffic enforcement stop.  The officer contacted the driver, 36-year-old Jose Chapa of Palmdale, and passenger, 30-year-old Monea Simpson of Palmdale regarding the violation.  Assisting officers arrived, and a consensual search of Chapa’s person produced a baggie of methamphetamine.  A search of Simpson produced marijuana and a pay stub for another individual.  Assisting officers arrived, and during the investigation it was discovered that Chapa was on federal probation and had a warrant out for his arrest, and Simpson had an outstanding felony warrant out for her arrest.  A search of the vehicle produced personal identifying information belonging to approximately 100 different people, ten credit/debit cards belonging to other individuals, blank checks from other individuals and checks addressed to other individuals, over 20 pieces of mail belonging to someone else, a vehicle title in someone else’s name, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, and burglary tools.  Ultimately, Chapa was arrested and booked for identity theft, possessing a controlled substance, controlled substance paraphernalia, and his outstanding warrant.  Simpson was arrested and booked for identity theft and her outstanding warrant.
