National Night Out (NNO) is a community-driven event where neighbors get to know each other and share concerns, strategies, and ideas for safer communities. NNO culminates annually on the first Tuesday in August. NNO 2024 is scheduled for Tuesday, August 6. 

The Glendale Police Department, the Glendale Fire Department, members of the Glendale City Council and City officials will visit these events to hear concerns and ideas, and explore how they might work together to improve the safety of their neighborhoods.

National Night Out is designed not only to create police and community partnership but also to:

• Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness

• Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs

• Strengthen neighborhood spirit

• Send a message to criminals, letting them know neighborhoods are organized and watching out

Since 2015, the Glendale Police Department has participated in the Pink Patch Project to raise awareness about breast cancer -- which will develop in 1 in 8 women in the United States in their lifetime -- in October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 

As a part of this annual health campaign, the Glendale Police Department sells a pink version of its department patch to raise funds for breast cancer research, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and a cure. 

Glendale Police Officers’ Association (GPOA) partners with the Pink Patch Project, founded in 2013 by the Seal Beach Police Department, to sell pink patches. The limited edition patch is available for $10 at the police station front desk, 131 N. Isabel St., every October. For more information, contact the GPOA at gpoa@pacbell.net.

The Glendale Police Department also raises awareness by adding a bright pink Ford Explorer police unit and pink motorcycles to its fleet of vehicles in October. The pink Explorer is displayed at various cancer awareness events and businesses in Glendale throughout the month.

The Glendale Police Department breast cancer awareness vehicles are sponsored by Glendale Police Foundation, Vital Medical Services, Dignity Health Glendale Memorial Hospital, Adventist Medical Center, USC Verdugo Hills Hospital, Bistagne Bros Body Shop, Sierra Sign Images, and Megaplex Tinting.

The Glendale Police Department is proud to hold an annual open house to invite the community to see the multiple sides that make up the police department.

The open house provides community members and law enforcement personnel the chance to interact on a more personal level. it also allows personnel to inform the community about the functions of each Glendale Police Department bureau.
