Glendale Water and Power to Host Solar and Energy Storage Plan Community Meetings

GWP is drafting a Solar and Energy Storage Plan and is hosting five community meetings to obtain direct input from residents and business owners

GLENDALE, CA February 21, 2024 – Glendale Water and Power (GWP) announced that they will be conducting a series of community meetings to receive feedback and input directly from Glendale residents in the development of their Solar and Energy Storage Plan.

In August 2022, the Glendale City Council passed a resolution expressing their intent to adopt policies and practices aimed at achieving the goal of having at least 10% of GWP customers adopt solar and energy storage systems by 2027, and develop additional demand management measures, with a minimum total peak dispatchable and peak-load-reducing capacity of 100 megawatts (MW). The goal of this solar and energy storage plan is to maximize the City of Glendale’s use of renewable energy to serve the current and future energy needs of Glendale residents.

Glendale Water and Power recognizes that achieving this goal will not come without its challenges, which is why they are seeking input directly from residents to ensure that their Solar and Energy Storage Plan properly captures the interests and needs of the residents and business owners of Glendale. In doing so, Glendale Water and Power will host a total of five community meetings:

Wednesday, February 28, 2024, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM  @ Adult Recreation Center
Saturday, March 2, 2024, 10:00 AM -12:00 PM @ Sparr Heights Community Center

Thursday, May 30, 2024, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM  @ Sparr Heights Community Center

Glendale Water and Power’s Solar and Energy Storage Plan will include an evaluation of the adoption potential and consider several policies and incentives to achieve the adoption and capacity goals. Glendale Water and Power is eager to sit down with customers and listen to their thoughts, suggestions, and concerns as they move toward the creation and implementation of this plan.
