Glendale's Oversight Board was dissolved by operation of law (Government Code section 34179(j), which specifies that on and after July 1, 2018, in each county where more than one oversight board was created. The last meeting for Glendale's Oversight Board was held on June 6, 2018.

There shall be only one Oversight Board, which is now County Oversight Board.

Commission/Board Members may continue to serve beyond their term limit until such time that they or their successors are qualified and appointed (GMC 2.36.010 (C)).

Duties

The Oversight Board was formed pursuant to California Assembly Bill x1 26, the "Dissolution Act", which dissolved all redevelopment agencies in the State of California, effective February 1, 2012.

The Oversight Board has fiduciary responsibility to the holders of enforceable obligations and the taxing entities that benefit from the distributions of property taxes. The Oversight Board will oversee the winding down process of the former Glendale Redevelopment Agency.

Membership

  • Seven members
  • No terms
  • Oversight Boards shall be in place until July 1, 2018, at which time, it is anticipated that only one Oversight Board will serve each County.
  • No compensation

Qualifications

The Dissolution Act calls for the creation of an Oversight Board for each successor agency, comprised of seven members:

  • 2 appointed by the Mayor; 1 must represent the recognized employee organization representing the largest number of former agency employees;
  • 3 appointed by the County Board of Supervisors (2 at large and 1 appointed by the largest special taxing district in the former agency);
  • 1 appointed by the County School Superintendent; and
  • 1 appointed by the Community College Chancellor.

Elected officials may not serve on the board. Active board members are not allowed to serve on more than one board/commission/committee (as defined in Title 2 of the Glendale Municipal Code) at the same time.
