Project Scope

In our ongoing effort to upgrade the City's park facilities, Community Services & Parks Department (CSP) is replacing the playground at Emerald Isle Park. The existing playground was originally installed over twenty years ago and needs replacement to meet the growing needs of a diverse population.

The Emerald Isle Playground Replacement Project will include demolition and recycling / disposal of the existing equipment, the purchase and installation of new equipment, new poured in place rubberized safety surfacing, shade structures, as well as expansion of the playground to include a play space for children ages 2-to-5 by replacing the sand box adjacent to the existing playground. As part of the project, sidewalks improvements are also required to ensure access meets ADA requirements.

Budget

The playground replacement project at Emerald Isle Park, including playground equipment purchase, installation, site improvements, plus 10% contingency, will cost $864,626.83.  The City has been awarded two grants to support the completion of the improvement project, including $177,952 from the State Park’s Prop 68 Per Capita Grant Program and $142,964 from the California Parks and Recreation Society (CPRS) to discount the price of the playground cost. City Council approved General Fund and Development Impact Fees for the cost balance of $543,710.83 on May 23, 2023.

Status Update

The Project received permit approval on May 8, 2024. Playground installation began on May 28, 2024, and is expected to be completed by July 17, 2024.
