The Catalina Verdugo Trail is an 8,929 foot multi-use trail in the San Rafael Hills surrounding the Glendale Sports Complex. The trailhead is located at the south end of the Complex and originates from the City’s ADA-accessible trail funded by a grant from the federal Recreational Trails Program. The 2.0 mile long trail meanders in and out of canyons at an easy grade and completes the loop by returning to the north end of the Complex. It also provides a connection on the south to an existing fire road at the "top" of the ridgeline. This connection opens up numerous linkages with additional trails and fire roads in the cities of Glendale, Pasadena, and La Canada Flintridge. The trail features benches, interpretive signage, and one 28 foot bridge. The trail also interprets the history of the San Rafael Hills and the Verdugo Valley as it is named after one of its earliest residents, Catalina Verdugo, first lady of the Rancho San Rafael.

This trail is specifically designed to accommodate people of moderate physical fitness and skills. It is meant to fill the gap between the City’s new ADA Accessible Trail at the Sports Complex which is an easy trail designed for people of all levels of ability, and the steep fire roads above the Complex which are only accessible by hikers or mountain bikers with high levels of fitness. The users of the Catalina Verdugo Trail will include all those with moderate fitness abilities including parents with children, teens, seniors, hikers, trail runners, mountain bikers, bird watchers, dog-walkers, and photographers.
