Officer Julian Cruz and K9 Coda were partnered between September 2020 and January 2024. Coda is a Belgian Malinois and was born on September 9, 2018 in the Czech Republic.  Coda was trained as a locating tool for suspects and firearms and his commands are in Czech. Julian and Coda attended a 5-week basic K9 academy at Adlerhorst International in Riverside, California. They successfully passed the California P.O.S.T. requirements and assigned to patrol. K9 Coda is cross-trained in firearms detection.

During his career, Coda assisted in numerous area and building searches for dangerous suspects, including a search for two home-invasion robbery suspects that he located in a backyard. Coda also located several firearms whole assisting patrol officers and investigators both in Glendale and for other agencies. In addition to his official police duties, Coda also participated in numerous K9 demonstrations for the Glendale community, including visiting schools and attending community events such as Glendale Cruise Night, National Night Out and Howl at the Moon. After more than three years of dedicated and distinguished service, Coda was retired on January 21, 2024.
