Over 80% of Glendale Fire Department’s calls are medical. Full-time Ambulance Operators respond with sworn personnel, providing assistance as needed and transporting patients to local hospitals. Shifts follow the 48/96 work schedule and use the A/B/C platoon model, with the exception of one 12-hour ambulance. Ambulance operators in good standing have opportunities to be granted sponsorship to paramedic school, and may compete for internal promotion to sworn Glendale firefighter.

Minimum Requirements:

• Age 18 or older
• High School graduation or GED / SHSPE certificate
• Valid California Class C driver's license
• Valid California Motor Vehicle Ambulance Certification Endorsement
• Valid State of California Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certificate
• Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) card
• Ability to commit to48/96 schedule

Selection Process:

• Oral interview similar to that of a Firefighter
• Background investigation with Polygraph test
• Medical exam
