EXITS

  • No obstructions or storage in exits, aisles, corridors, stairs and fire escapes
  • Repair and maintain lighting for corridors, stairways, exits and garages
  • Provide approved exit signs at all required exits
  • Maintain and test emergency lights and emergency power systems

ELECTRICAL

  • No extension cords used in lieu of permanent wiring
  • No unprotected holes in fire resistive construction (walls, ceilings, shafts, etc.);
  • Approved fire stopping around all wiring, pipes, or other objects that penetrate fire resistive construction (walls, ceilings, shafts, etc.)
  • Maintain clearance in front of electrical panels (minimum 36" deep x 30" wide x 78" high)

FIRE EXTINGUISHERS

  • Minimum 2A:10B:C rating
  • Maximum travel distance to nearest fire extinguisher shall not exceed 75-feet
  • Post signs indicating the location of fire extinguishers, if not readily visible
  • Service and tag annually and after each use

FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS

  • Maintain in operable condition
  • Test and certify annually by a California State Licensed Contractor
  • Maintain systems UL-certification (for all systems installed after 1989)

FIRE SPRINKLER/STANDPIPE SYSTEMS

  • Maintain in operable condition
  • Inspect and certify annually and test every 5 years by a California State Licensed Contractor

VEGETATION MANAGEMENT in the High or Very High Fire Hazard Zones

  • Clear weeds, dead plant material, and hazardous vegetation on the parcel from within 100 feet of all structures. Trees, ornamental shrubbery or green plants used as ground cover need not be removed
  • Remove leaves, pine needles, and any other combustible debris from roof, including areas of roof beneath solar panels and other roof-top equipment
  • Remove any portion of a tree within 10-feet of the outlet of a chimney
  • Chimneys shall be provided with a spark arrester constructed of heavy wire mesh with openings not exceeding ½-inch, or a UL listed spark arrester
  • Remove combustible grass and weeds within 10-feet of roadway
  • Prune lower branches of trees located within 3-6 feet of ground
