Background

The City of Glendale Water and Power (GWP) is proactively replacing its pipelines to improve water service, reduce water loss and the number of pipeline breaks in the service area. Most of these pipelines were installed more than 95 years ago. The pipelines are constructed of unlined cast-iron with high levels of tuberculation which can contribute to water quality issues. In addition to this, majority of these pipelines are undersized for current water operations. 

As part of GWP’s on-going Pipeline Management Program, this project intends to replace these deteriorated and substandard water mains with new, larger-size, ductile-iron water mains to upgrade the water service.  It is also the goal of this project to improve water circulation, operational flexibility, and water quality in the water distribution system. 

Scope of Work:

The work generally includes the design and construction of approximately 11,745 linear feet of 8-inch diameter Class 350 ductile-iron water pipeline and installation of associated isolation valves, blow-off assemblies, air and vacuum release valve assemblies, fire hydrant assemblies, service lines to customers, and all required fittings and appurtenances at various locations throughout the City of Glendale.
