The Grayson Power Plant has been steadfastly serving our City since the early 1940s, and after its successful and prolonged run, much of its existing infrastructure and equipment is due for replacement. The Grayson Repowering Project will replace aged, unreliable, inefficient, and high maintenance equipment at the Grayson Power Plant with a combination of energy storage and new, efficient, faster-starting, and more environmentally-responsible generation technologies. The project means providing efficient and reliable power to Glendale homes and businesses, especially in times of emergency and high demand.

The need to repower is also environmental. The modern units will have the flexibility to turn on and off quickly and provide reserve energy to support increasing amounts of intermittent solar and renewable energy.

GWP has prepared the 2022 Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR). Click here to view the 2022 FEIR.

On August 9, 2021, GWP published the Partially Recirculated Draft Environmental Impact Report (PR-DEIR) for the Proposed Grayson Repowering Project at https://graysonrepowering.com/#pr-draft-eir for a 98-day comment period.

The PR-DEIR for the Grayson Repowering Project examines two new project alternatives, provides project updates to the environmental impact report analysis, including an update on Cultural and Paleontological Resources impacts, and adds the analysis of Energy and Wildfire environmental impact categories for the project located at 800 Air Way, Glendale, CA 91201.

An overview of the project and the FEIR will be presented to the GWP Commission on January 31, 2022 at 5:30 p.m. and the Sustainability Commission on February 3, 2022 at 5:30 p.m. The Final EIR will be presented for approval to the City Council on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. Click here to view the meeting live and patriciate.
